Prayer of Confession: Galatians 5

Here’s a prayer of confession inspired by Galatians 5.  It was written by Alex S. Leung.

Prayer of Confession
(inspired by Galatians 5: 1)

So Christ has really set us free.
Now make sure that you stay free,
and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” Galatians 5:1

O Lord,
You are our Father,
and we are but earth and mire;
You are our Creator,
and we are the work of your hands;
You are our Shepherd,
and we are your flock;
You are our Redeemer,
and we are the people you have bought back;
You are our God,
and we are your inheritance.

Therefore, do not be angry against us, to correct us in your wrath.
Do not recall our sin, to punish it, but chastise us gently in your kindness.
Be mindful that your name is upon us, that we bear your mark and badge.
Undertake the work you have already begun in us by your grace,
that the whole earth may recognize that you are our God and Savior.

We pray this in the strong name of Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

For freedom Christ has set us free;
stand firm therefore,
and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. (Galatians 5:1 ESV)
