Litany of Call: Jonah 3

Here’s a litany based on Jonah 3, one of the suggested readings for January 22, 2012 (the third Sunday after Epiphany).  It was written by Katherine Hawker.

Litany of Call
(based on Jonah 3: 1-5, 10)

The Voice calling long ago.
The Voice calling today.

The Voice compelling Jonah to go.
The Voice compelling us to go.

The Voice calling to Jonah
compelling him to share the good news
of God's redemptive love.

The Voice calling to us
compelling us to share the good news
of God's redemptive love.

With those who would be enemies.
With those who would be enemies.

The people of Nineveh, beloved of God.
The people of Iraq, beloved of God.

The Voice calling long ago.
The Voice calling today.

— written by Katherine Hawker, and posted on her excellent site, Liturgy Outside the Box.  She also has a wonderful story/sermon there called “Jonah faces Nineveh.”
