Call to Worship for Ascension

Here are a number of calls to worship suitable for Ascension Day/Sunday, based on the lectionary passages selected for that day.  Feel free to adapt them to suit your needs.

Ascension: Call to Worship

(based on Psalm 47)

Our God has ascended with a mighty shout.

The Lord has ascended with trumpets blaring!

Come, let’s sing praise to God together,

for our God is sovereign over all the earth!

Ascension: Call to Worship 2

(based on Psalm 47)

Come and worship, people of God!

Let’s celebrate with songs of praise!

For our God—the Most High—is seated on his holy throne,

Sovereign over all the earth!

Let’s worship God together.

Ascension: Call to Worship 3

(based on Psalm 47)

Clap your hands, all you peoples;

shout to God with loud songs of joy!

For God has ascended with shouts of triumph,

and trumpet fanfare!

Our God is exalted on high,

Sovereign over all the nations,

and Lord of our lives.

Let’s worship together.

Ascension: Call to Worship 4
(based on Psalm 93)

Our God reigns!
Robed with majesty and armed with strength,
God holds our world and our lives securely.
This is the God to whom we have given our lives—
the God who deserves our worship and our praise!

Ascension: Call to Worship 5

(based on Luke 24:44-46; Ephesians 1:20-22; Hebrews 4:16)

You have heard what was written about Jesus in Scripture—

how he would suffer and die

and then rise from the dead on the third day;

how the same power that raised Jesus from the dead

raised Him to heaven and seated Him at the right hand of God,

where he now lives to intercede on our behalf.

So let us come before God with confidence,

through the loving intercession of our risen Lord,

Jesus Christ!
