Benedictions for Holy Humor Sunday (Laughter Sunday)

Here are some suggestions for scriptural benedictions you might use on Laughter Sunday (aka Holy Humor Sunday, Bright Sunday), the first Sunday after Easter. I’ve taken a few liberties with the scriptural texts!  Feel free to revise and adapt them to suit your local needs.

Benediction I
(based on Romans 15:12-14)

As you go from here,
may God—our source of our hope—
fill you up completely with joy and peace
so that you overflow with hope
by the power of the Holy Spirit!

Benediction II
(based on Romans 15:12-14, The Message)

May the God of hope
fill you up with joy,
fill you up with peace,
so that your lives,
filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit,
will brim over with hope!

Benediction III
(based on Philippians 4, Common English Bible)

Be glad in the Lord always!
Again I say, be glad!
Focus your thoughts on all that is true,
all that is holy, all that is just,
all that is pure, all that is lovely,
and all that is worthy of praise.
Practice these things,
and the God of peace will go with you.

Benediction IV
(based on Colossians 1)

As you go from here,
may you be strengthened by God’s glorious might;
the kind of strength that not only endures the unendurable,
but spills over into joy and thanksgiving to God!
Go in the peace of Christ!

Benediction V
(based on Jude 1)

All glory to God,
who is able to keep you from falling away
and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence
without a single fault!
All glory to the only God our Savior,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
